Jonathan Keep (Johannesburg, SA, 1958) is a UK-based artist noted for his freethinking approach to pottery and the ceramic form. Jonathan pushes the boundaries of his medium with a creative convergence of ceramics, multimedia, virtual reality and 3D printing.
His recent creative investigations include his Random Growth series, inspired by the growth patterns of natural structures such as stalactites & ant hills, whose underlying logic and code are paired with randomness. Similarly Keep’s Sound Surfaces series, consists of physical representations of digital music recordings with the ultimate surface expressed as 3D-printed ceramic objects and vessels.
Jonathan received his MA from the Royal College of Art in 2002. Jonathan’s work has been exhibited recently at Collect in the Victoria and Albert Museum, Network Europe at the Museum of International Art (Denmark), Unexpected Too at Sotheby’s (New York), the Carlin Gallery (Paris), Puls Gallery (Brussels) and Sarah Myerscough Fine Art, (London).
Jonathan Keep’s Marsico Visiting Artist events at DU are a collaboration between the DU School of Art & Art History and the Emergent Digital Practices Program.
Deep appreciation to the DU Marsico Visiting Scholars Initiative and DU Marsico AHUM Committee for their sponsorship and support.
